The Lake Worth Beach Planning & Zoning Board voted on March 4 to recommend that the City Commission transmit an updated 10‑year water supply facilities work plan for state review. Lance Lilly, the city's consultant with Chenmore, told the board the update mainly reflects population and demand adjustments and the South Florida Water Management District's 2024 update that triggers a local 18‑month update timeline.
"The most recent update was conducted in 2020," Lilly said, and the South Florida plan was updated in September 2024, creating the statutory schedule for local updates. He told the board the update includes population projections, potable‑water demand estimates, a five‑year capital improvement program and proposed changes to well status and monitoring. Staff recommended approval to transmit the plan to the City Commission and then to state review agencies for comment and final adoption.
Board members asked clarifying questions about whether the board was reviewing the entire comprehensive plan (staff replied the board’s role was advisory for this specific water supply update) and requested the update be transmitted to the City Commission for transmittal to the state. No members of the public spoke on the item, and the board recorded a recommendation to transmit the ordinance for the state review required by Florida statute section 163.31776(c.
