Town board approves $17,979 contract for new Town Hall sign

The Town of Fenton Town Board voted 5–0 on March 4 to award a $17,979 contract to Robinson Design for a new Town Hall sign and decorative backing. The contract price covers lettering, logo, wooden decking, lighting and installation; it does not include power to the lighting, which the board noted would be an additional cost.
Deputy Supervisor Thomas Moss presented two bids — Robinson Design at $17,979 and LeChase Construction at $21,850 — and moved to accept the lower bid. The motion was seconded by Councilman Richard Pray and passed on a roll-call vote: Cook, Husar, Moss, Pray and Supervisor David Gunster all voted aye. Prior to the vote, Councilmen Thomas Cook and Richard Pray said they “felt it was a lot of money for a sign;” Moss replied that the project fits a longer-term vision for phased Town Hall improvements and said the Grunder family approved the design to restore signage honoring Donald J. Grunder.
The board recorded the decision as a formal motion and will proceed with contract paperwork. The meeting minutes indicate the sign’s wooden backing will sit below brick lettering that will read “Donald J. Grunder Building.”
