During the Q&A portion staff and the contractor addressed homeowner questions about utility locates, watering during restrictions and optional overseeding.
On utility locates, Ken said crews will call for locates on public utilities through Iowa One Call, but homeowners must mark private utilities (satellite lines, irrigation, landscape lighting) themselves. "If you call it when you call in your locates, Iowa 1 Call is great at it," Ken said, adding that the contractor will record known private utilities in their spreadsheet.
Staff clarified watering and post-treatment care: water the seed/compost the day of application and daily for seven days when possible, wait about a week before mowing, and avoid chemical lawn treatments for at least a week after application. Julia reiterated that overseeding is recommended but not required and that overseeding costs are handled separately through the contractor's DocuSign process if homeowners choose it.
Staff also noted the city has dealt with recent nitrate issues in source water and that watering restrictions are a possibility in drought conditions, which could affect how residents should manage post-treatment watering.
