Byron council approves rezoning of Hwy 247 Connector parcel, grants construction easement

The Byron Mayor and Council held a public hearing at 6:06 p.m. on Jan. 13, 2025, and voted to rezone map/parcel 052A 081 (Hwy 247 Connector) from County R-AG to City R-1 (low-density residential). The rezoning was approved after supporters said the change would allow Phase 2 to access city water and sewer; the motion to approve included authorization for a construction easement to be used for construction access.
Speakers at the hearing included Matt Widner and Eugene Mittuch speaking in favor of the rezone and Autumn Cove residents William Harry Walker, William Mitchelson, and Floyd Pinkney who raised concerns that construction equipment could damage county roads. In response, the council approved the use of a construction easement intended to limit construction traffic on existing neighborhood streets. The council's approval was made by motion of Rusty Adams, seconded by James Richardson; the public hearing record shows the hearing closed at 6:18 p.m.
