Byron council opens demolition bids for Old Byron School; low bid from Southeastern Demolition at $267,000

The City of Byron Mayor and Council opened sealed bids for demolition of the Old Byron School during a special session on Jan. 21, 2025. Mayor Michael Chidester announced the bid opening and read the four submissions aloud.
The four offers included a $547,000 bid from JB Walker Homes, a base $267,000 bid (with a $367,000 expedited option) from Southeastern Demolition & Environmental Services of Atlanta, a $388,200 bid from Complete Demolition Services, LLC of Carrollton, and a $449,028 bid from Eagle Demolition and Environmental of Carrollton. According to the minutes, each bidder submitted required supporting documents such as a 10% bid bond, proof of liability insurance and E‑Verify affidavits. "Mayor Chidester opened the following bids as follows," the minutes state. City Administrator Tiffany Sandefur said she will provide a bid-review checklist to council and schedule a called meeting next week to review award options.
