Council approves Portal Park wedding rental and one-hour noise exemption

The Westfir City Council on Dec. 1 approved an application from Elizabeth Brown (Veneta) to rent Portal Park June 19–21, 2026, for the Sundquist wedding, contingent on receipt of payment and all required documentation. City Recorder Nicole Tritten told the council that Brown had submitted parking approval from mill site owners and a certificate of liability insurance.
Councilor Deretta Huey made the motion to approve the rental and Councilor Dylan Cheatham seconded; the motion passed 4–0 with Mayor Richard Watson, Huey, Cheatham and Councilor Linda M. Love voting aye. After approving the rental, the council considered a request in the site plan to allow amplified sound one hour past the ordinance limit. "The applicant requested amplified sound until 11 p.m. on June 20," Recorder Nicole Tritten said. Councilor Cheatham moved to grant the one-hour exemption; Love seconded and the motion carried 4–0.
The rental approval and noise exemption are contingent on the applicant providing the required payment and documentation. The council did not record any dissenting votes. The city indicated staff will check that all contingency items are received before the permit is finalized.
