Council approves $1,000 contingency transfer after mayor spent personal funds on sandbags

The Westfir City Council unanimously approved Resolution 576 to transfer contingency funds within the General Fund to cover emergency stormwater response costs. City Recorder Nicole Tritten told the Council that "a transfer of $530 of contingency funds was necessary to reimburse the mayor for personal money he spent to have sand delivered to City Hall and to have sandbags filled and delivered to the 1st and 2nd Street loop" after forecasting an atmospheric river event. Given the emergency nature, the Council voted to appropriate $1,000 to ensure sufficient funds for response.
Councilors expressed concern the expenditure had not received prior approval but agreed the expense was necessary because of the forecasted emergency and a County partnership that provided empty sandbags. Councilor Jara Mouracade moved to approve Resolution 576; Councilor Linda M. Love seconded and the motion carried 4–0.
