Council forgives $300 in late charges, approves six-month payment plan for resident

At a special meeting on Oct. 22, Mayor Richard Watson and the Westfir City Council approved forgiving $300 of late charges on a water account for Ashley Pierzina and primary account holder Ben Austin and set a six-month repayment plan for the remaining balance.
Councilor Deretta Huey moved to forgive $300 of the late charges; Councilor Dylan Cheatham seconded. The motion carried 3–0–1 with Councilors Watson, Huey and Cheatham voting yes and Councilor Jara Mouracade abstaining because she employs Ms. Pierzina. The council recorded the past-due amount on the account as $673.27 and said late charges since February 2025 totaled $447.20.
After the forgiveness motion, the council approved a payment plan for the remaining balance of $373.27: Ms. Pierzina agreed to pay $62.21 per month toward that balance over six months, in addition to the ongoing monthly bill, resulting in a required payment of $183.21 per month. Councilor Cheatham moved to authorize the payment plan; Councilor Huey seconded and the motion carried with the same 3–0–1 tally. City Recorder Nicole Tritten noted the payment must be made on time each month to prevent water shutoff.
The special meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m. by Mayor Richard Watson and adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
