Board accepts two 9-1-1 grants, including $50,000 for GIS data enhancement

Dave Layman presented two grants the county had been awarded by the Virginia 9-1-1 Service Board: one for PSAP continuing education and one for GIS data enhancement to improve the 9-1-1 center's address specificity. Layman said neither grant required a local match and that the GIS award amount is $50,000. "This will kind of narrow it down to that specific site," he said, explaining that campground and school lot sub-address points will help dispatchers locate callers.
County staff recommended accepting both grants together and moving to administration of the funds; the board voted by roll call to approve acceptance and authorized staff to administer the awards.
