Board proclaims March Red Cross Month, highlights local volunteers and blood drive needs

The Solano County Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation recognizing March as American Red Cross Month and thanked local volunteers for disaster and blood‑donor support. The board granted consensus support for the resolution during its consent items and invited Red Cross staff to speak.
Vincent Valenzuela, executive director for the Red Cross North Bay chapter, said the chapter covers Solano, Marin, Napa and Sonoma counties and relies on volunteers for 90% of its work. “Our mission would not be possible without the community heroes that are our volunteers,” Valenzuela said, and he encouraged residents to host and attend local blood drives. Volunteer Rhonda Roshan Smith described tracking donations and said Red Cross hopes to expand local blood drives in 2025 to protect the blood supply amid wildfire and weather cancellations.
The proclamation recited local statistics including recent numbers of families assisted in home‑fire incidents, blood units collected and volunteer service hours in Solano County. Board members took photos with the Red Cross delegation and asked staff to circulate volunteer and blood‑drive information to county residents.
