Board honors county fingerprint examiner credited with helping solve cold cases

The Solano County Board of Supervisors on March 25 adopted a resolution and presented a plaque honoring latent fingerprint examiner Darryl on his retirement after more than 16 years with the sheriff's office. The board unanimously approved the recognition and called him a longtime fixture in the county forensic program.
Chair Mashburn read the resolution outlining Darryl’s career and international recognition in the field. Undersheriff Brad Wall said Darryl “stood alone in his role for the whole county,” handling fingerprint analysis for the county and training deputies. Darryl, who told the board he started in 1977 and has worked in forensics for 47 years, said he was grateful and joked about retirement plans. “This is the place you’re gonna retire from,” he said of Solano County, thanking colleagues and the board for the recognition.
The board invited the sheriff's office family forward for photographs and noted several cases where latent print work directly produced matches and justice for families. No formal action beyond the presentation was required; the plaque and resolution were approved and presented during the meeting.
