David Hardisty asked the Panora City Council to schedule a hearing on a nuisance notice issued for his property at 410 E. Market Street, saying he has been working with Iowa State University Extension to establish a pollinator garden. Hardisty told the council that "the majority of the vegetation on the property consists of pollinator plants rather than noxious weeds," and asked the council to reconsider the notice.
After discussion, Council Member Brian Dorsett moved to table consideration of the nuisance notice until the next meeting so the full council could be present; Roger Dorr seconded. With the roll being called, the motion carried unanimously. The tabling leaves the notice unresolved and schedules the matter for further consideration when more council members are available.
The request arose during the Council Business portion of the July 27 meeting. The council did not vote to overturn or affirm the nuisance notice on July 27; no additional evidence or a formal hearing record was taken that night. Next steps are placement of the item on the subsequent meeting agenda for a full council decision.
