North Bay Village awards memorial scholarships and recognizes community volunteers

At the May meeting the North Bay Village Commission presented the 2025 Sayuri Sisters Memorial Scholarships and additional educational awards.
Mayor Rachel Stryfeld introduced the scholarship presentations and thanked the resident services advisory board and communications staff for organizing the program. Former Vice Mayor Eddie Lim joined the ceremony to honor the Sayuri family and read a letter from relatives; Scholarship winners were recognized on stage and invited to say a few words.
Vice mayor and resident services board members highlighted recipients’ achievements: Franz (Franz Dorsha), Verona Farfan (winner of the Sofia Sayedee Scholarship), Jude Capote (Maria Sayedee Scholarship), and an honorable mention funded by the mayor for Mateo Perry. The commission and residents applauded the students and took photos with recipients to honor the family’s memory.
Commissioners described the presentations as a poignant community moment and thanked families and board members for organizing the awards.
