Edisto Beach departments report: wastewater bypass, AMI rollout and Town Hall/EOC completion date set

Department heads provided monthly reports to council on April 9. The building department reported permit fees and inspections and noted 21 new homes are under construction. The fire department reported increased medical-related calls year-over-year, 90% completion of annual business inspections and 270 hours of firefighter training. The police department reported miles patrolled, incidents and the delivery of a Beach Patrol utility task vehicle (UTV).

Utilities reported 12,288,020 million gallons pumped in March 2026 and 4,912,037 million gallons treated (year-to-date totals included). The wastewater treatment plant is on bypass while dredging is complete, new lines are prepped, and aerators are on site. Mark Aakhus told council that all lift stations are operational and permitted and that final closeout is pending. He also said additional AMI meter antenna installations are ongoing and the timeline for transitioning to monthly billing and an online portal remains under development. Town Hall/EOC construction has a tentative substantial completion date of April 27, 2026, with generator and furniture installations scheduled for the following week.
