On April 9 the Edisto Beach Town Council voted unanimously to approve Resolution 2026-R04, expressing the town's support for the Lowcountry Council of Governments (LCOG) to include improvements to the SC-174 causeway in regional long-range transportation plans and to coordinate with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) on funding and implementation of resiliency improvements.
The resolution specifically encourages consideration of raised roadway designs to improve reliability during tidal flooding and storm events. Joey Bagwell moved to approve the resolution and Jerome Kizer seconded; the motion passed without opposition. The resolution directs staff and intergovernmental partners to continue coordination with LCOG and SCDOT to advance project planning and funding.
