The Galesburg City Council approved a $1,240,000 procurement from Motorola Solutions to purchase 27 mobile and 84 portable radios that will move police and fire onto the statewide Starcom 21 interoperable radio system.
Mr. Hansen told the council that Motorola was the sole proposer meeting specifications, which included Starcom 21 compatibility, on-site factory installation, training and a five-year warranty. "Staff recommends approval of a $1,240,000 bid from Motorola Solutions for the purchase and installation of 27 mobile and 84 portable radios," he said, adding that sufficient funds are available in the Special Revenue and Capital Projects Fund.
Staff said the upgrade allows direct radio communications with county and state partners rather than routing through dispatch and that peers are already on the system. Council voted unanimously to approve the purchase.
