City Manager Mr. Hansen told the council the purchase replaces aging equipment and integrates camera systems to improve accountability and evidence collection. "Staff recommends approval of a 5 year agreement with Motorola Solutions for the purchase and installation of 13 car cameras, 55 body worn cameras, and 2 interview room systems totaling $435,342.85," he said, noting the city anticipates a $100,000 matching grant toward the purchase.
Council members asked whether the cost included data storage and how secure the systems would be. The police chief responded: "This, also includes cloud storage. We have unlimited cloud storage, so we'll be able to store unlimited data," and added that storage is a significant cost driver. The chief also said newer camera models have removable batteries to address earlier battery-life problems. The council voted unanimously to approve the agreement.
