Trappe puts wastewater ENR upgrade design and bidding out to request for proposals

The Trappe Town Council on Sept. 4 approved a GMB contract amendment to proceed with engineering design and bid services for the wastewater treatment plant enhanced nutrient removal (ENR) upgrade.
Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan presented GMB’s agreement, which would allow the firm to design the ENR upgrade, prepare bid documents, meet with contractors, respond to questions and recommend next steps to the council. Commissioner Jeremy Newnam moved to put the design phase out to bid and to request a stricter schedule so the project can remain on the current timeline; Commissioner Walter Chase seconded and the motion was approved unanimously.
Council members also approved separately issuing an RFP to obtain quotes to replace and rebuild the bar/filter screen at the treatment plant; the council noted that work can proceed now without affecting grant funds for the ENR upgrade.
Staff will manage the bidding process and return to the council with contractor proposals and schedule recommendations.
