Councilmember says Whiteville will enter multi-year DOT paving work covering several roads

A councilmember updated the City Council that the Department of Transportation project known in the meeting as '701' is wrapping up and that one remaining median task has been completed. The councilmember said the city will assume maintenance responsibility for that work and begin to receive reimbursements for the maintenance tasks the city takes on.
"They had 1 more modem they were gonna do on the medians. That modem has been completed. Now city staff will take ownership of maintaining that ... which we'll, start to receive reimbursements for the work that we do there," the councilmember said. The speaker described ongoing coordination with DOT and city staff on multiple projects.
The councilmember also said the city is "starting to enter into a paving portion of DOT work that's coming to the city of White Oak over the next 3 or 4 years. There's, I think, 5 or 6 roads that are on there planned for the immediate future." They said staff members including Travis and Robert, and a colleague named Hal, are included in those conversations to identify opportunities to alleviate water problems across the city.
The councilmember said the work is intended to address recurring water issues and that the city will provide more information as conversations with DOT progress. No formal vote or funding appropriation related to the DOT paving projects was recorded in the transcript.
