City staff advised the council that the governor issued an executive order restricting fireworks statewide and that Eureka need not take further action if it intends to keep a local fireworks ban in place.
"As I understand it, basically, if you want to keep fireworks ban within Eureka, you don't have to take any further action," staff member Shay told the council, explaining the governor's order bans most fireworks statewide except for previously approved large shows. Shay said the city would only need to act if it planned to designate specific areas to allow fireworks. Council members expressed unanimous support for maintaining restrictions due to residual fire risk in the area.
