Commission hears $22–25K estimate for Town Forest easement and stewardship fund contribution

Craig Privett of the Upper Valley Land Trust told the Lyme Conservation Commission the financial cost of a conservation easement typically has two parts: general project costs and a stewardship-fund contribution.
Privett said the general project costs are "~$10–12K" for legal recording, site visits, boundary marking and mapping, and that a required contribution to a stewardship fund is typically "~$12–15K" based on a formula the trust uses; "The total will be ~$22-25K total," he said. He added that costs could be reduced if the town supplies marked boundaries or performs preparatory administrative work.
Commission members discussed whether volunteers could help by marking boundaries and providing title updates to reduce consultant time and legal costs. No funding decision was made; members noted that providing some paperwork could materially lower the total expense.
