The City Council voted to approve Resolution 25‑2030 authorizing the purchase of the property assigned to 345–363 East South Street for $150,000, a staff‑recommended acquisition intended to consolidate lots adjacent to an existing city parking area.
"Staff recommends approval of a resolution to purchase 363 South Street for a 150,000," Mr. Hansen said during the presentation, describing the site's adjacency to the city parking lot at 280 South Seminary Street and noting funding availability through the tax increment financing District 4 (Fund 49).
Hansen said the seller requested a 45‑day access period after council approval to dismantle and remove a steel frame building for reuse; staff emphasized the city would move forward with formal demolition later to secure the site. A staff member explained: "Once that steel portion is removed, it's gonna be left open and exposed, so we will have to demolish it to keep it safe."
Council members asked for clarity on future uses; staff said the parcel is part of a longer‑term redevelopment corridor (including a potential transit transfer location and underpass realignment) and that the city has sought control of remaining parcels for more than 20 years. By approving the purchase tonight, council did not authorize immediate demolition — that would require a separate council action.
