The Galesburg City Council approved a final-reading ordinance authorizing a 99‑year lease with the National Railroad Hall of Fame for a portion of Colton Park. Staff said the lease covers approximately 25,066 square feet and carries a nominal $1 rent for the entire term; the Hall will be responsible for all maintenance, utilities, insurance and taxes and the land reverts to the city if it ceases to be used as a museum.
Staff recommended approval and noted no direct budget impact. The clerk recorded a 6-0 roll-call vote in favor. Council members asked staff to watch for administrative items tied to the lease; the mayor joked he would "be looking for that penny in the budget next year."
