Historical society seeks city approval to remount Churchill Junior High bell

Debbie Sugai, president of the Galesburg Historical Society, told the council the former Churchill Junior High School building still contains the original bell and that owner Rob Benedick has discussed remounting it on the school's original site. "The bell was given to Churchill by Mrs. Rose," Sugai said, and asked the council to approve the historical society's plan so work can begin in a future timeframe.
Sugai said the project will not be immediate—"We won't be doing this this week... the 1st step here is getting the approval from the city to be able to do this"—and described the bell and building context for council. There were no objections recorded and the item moved on without formal action at that time; the speaker thanked councilors for their attention.
