Travis Brown (Public Works) told council the street‑sweeper collects nails, trash and other debris that would otherwise be carried into the stormwater system, reducing downstream maintenance needs. "The street sweeper does a whole lot more than just makes it pretty because everything that he does get up doesn't end up in there," Brown said.
Brown said seasonal peaks — spring and fall leaf drop — drive his busiest periods and estimated the sweeper hauls multiple loads per day in heavy seasons. He described coordination with jet trucks and ditch cleaning crews when material does enter drains, and said the department aims to be more proactive about outfall maintenance going forward.
