North Bay Village commission urges governor to veto SB 180 restricting local land-use changes during emergencies

The attorney said the bill's geographic and temporal sweep (jurisdictions within 100 miles of a declared state-of-emergency and an effective period through Oct. 1, 2027, as drafted) could preclude local elected bodies from responding to local needs. Commissioners moved and the body approved a resolution urging the governor to veto the bill. The commission approved a cover letter from the manager and the resolution by unanimous voice vote and asked staff to circulate the resolution and supporting letters to state officials.
The commission asked staff to prepare and send a formal resolution and cover letter to the governor's office and to coordinate with other cities that are opposing the bill.
