Residents press Westfir council on speed sign, Jake brakes, bike access and need for community space

Residents raised several non-agenda concerns at the Oct. 6 meeting, including moving the digital speed sign on Westoak Road, reporting log trucks using Jake Brakes inside city limits, tourist parking, making Westfir–Oakridge Road more bicycle friendly, the need for a gathering place, and training a local Water Master to reduce consultant costs.
During the citizen-comments portion that was taken at the end of the Oct. 6 meeting, Westfir resident Helaine Truthstone outlined multiple concerns: relocation of the digital speed sign on Westoak Road; how to report log trucks using Jake Brakes inside city limits; tourist parking constraints; improving bicycle safety on Westfir–Oakridge Road; creating a community gathering space; and training a local Water Master so the city would not always need to hire outside consultants. Truthstone provided a copy of her comments to the City Recorder.
Property owner Adam Kennedy expressed support for making Westfir–Oakridge Road more bicycle friendly. The council heard and recorded the concerns; no formal action was taken at that meeting on these items, and several agenda items were cut or tabled due to time constraints.
