The Westfir City Council on Oct. 6 approved a revised burn-permit application that requires applicants to acknowledge the city’s outdoor-burning regulations, including a provision that burn piles be located "50 feet away from any structure." Councilor Deretta Huey moved to approve the revised form, Councilor Jara Mouracade seconded, and the motion carried, 3–0.
City Recorder and Tourism Director Nicole Tritten said the revised form is designed both to document applicants’ acknowledgment of requirements and to collect information from residents who may not be eligible to burn because of lot size — data the city could use to evaluate alternative yard-debris disposal options. The approval was routine and carried by the three council members present: Mayor Richard Watson, Councilor Deretta Huey and Councilor Jara Mouracade.
