Board approves multiple staff hires and delegates limited hiring authority to superintendent

The Chatom Union School District Board of Trustees approved a slate of personnel appointments in closed session and gave the superintendent limited authority to hire staff needed before school starts.
The board recorded approvals for Maria Wigt (.40 FTE teacher), Laura Nance (Year 1 Induction Mentor, 8th grade), and multiple Mountain View athletics positions including Athletic Director Jason Rosalia and coaches Morgan Nunes, Daniel Jimenez-Soto, Jesus Alvarez and Nicholas Olvera. The board also approved the custodial/groundskeeper hire of Justin Avila; that motion carried with one abstention (Board Member Anthony Avila).
Board motions and vote tallies were recorded on the agenda: for example, the appointment of Maria Wigt was approved with a motion by Anthony Avila and a second by Alison Carvalho (Ayes 5, Noes 0, Abstentions 0). The board also "requested authority for the Superintendent to continue to hire vacant certificated and classified staff members that are time sensitive to the start of school under the direction of the Board President or Board Representative," a delegation passed unanimously.
The approvals were reported out in open session at 7:12 p.m., and the personnel actions will be implemented under district hiring processes.
