Board hears program inventory: STRIVE, SOAR, WellNest and related supports for students with disabilities

Director Heather Felciano described the district's program mix for students with qualifying disabilities, including STRIVE (life skills and intensive supports), SOAR, WellNest, RSP English and STEM‑aligned interventions. She listed staffing patterns—case carriers averaging about 26 students per caseload, paraeducator support, one school psychologist and part‑time speech services—and the scope of related services such as OT, PT, nursing, and assistive technology.
Felciano stressed safety and training requirements for higher‑need students: toileting and feeding‑tube protocols, seizure response, CPI de‑escalation and IBI training. She said many toileting tasks require two staff for safety. The board thanked staff for the refresher and discussed operational strain when substitute coverage is needed.
