Durham County announces inaugural Women Veterans Recognition Day

Halen Juarez Ruiz, a veteran service officer and U.S. Navy veteran, described the event and said it will highlight the service and experiences of women veterans, including presentations from Jasmine Lovett, Patricia Blackwell and Charisma Brock. Staff and community partners acknowledged the 77th anniversary of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act and thanked local groups such as Triangle Women Veteran Post 144 and congressional staff who support veterans programming.
Commissioners read a proclamation recognizing the new observance and thanked Durham County Veterans Services for organizing the event. The proclamation will be read as part of the program and the county encouraged residents to attend.
