Board opens with student honors: Raheem Allen and Myleah Hamilton recognized

The Solano County Board of Education began its Nov. 13 meeting by recognizing students of the month from programs supported by the Solano County Office of Education. Angela Jung, program administrator, introduced Raheem Allen (special-education student of the month) and described his classroom leadership, volunteer work and career aspirations.
"He's an independent and social student at Golden Hills... He attended and earned his certificate of completion at Solano Community College's adaptive horticulture program," a teacher said while highlighting Raheem's volunteer work and job experience at local restaurants. The board and attendees celebrated Raheem — who coincidentally had a birthday on the meeting date.
Later in the event, Dr. Garrett introduced Myleah Hamilton as the November student of the month from Golden Hills Community School and praised her perseverance and leadership. Trustees and staff emphasized the qualitative impacts of honoring students monthly and the role of community partnerships in hands-on programs such as adaptive horticulture, culinary training and transition supports.
The board singled out staff members who support these programs and noted that honoring students early in meetings is an ongoing tradition intended to lift up student successes.
