Board waives second reading and adopts revisions to conflict-of-interest code

Board staff presented proposed biennial updates to the county office’s conflict-of-interest code and asked trustees to consider either a second reading in September or waiving the second reading and acting tonight.
The staff summary noted that the Political Reform Act requires local agencies to review their conflict-of-interest codes biannually and that the recommended updates revise the list of designated positions in Exhibit A to maintain compliance. Staff said amendments must be submitted to the Board of Supervisors in December. As staff stated, “The Political Reform Act requires every local government agency to review its conflict of interest code biannually to determine its accuracy.”
Trustee Dean moved to waive the second reading and adopt the proposed revisions; the motion was seconded and the board conducted a roll-call vote. Trustees voted in the affirmative and the motion passed. The board recorded no public comment on the item. Staff told trustees the board may bring the amendment back for a second reading in September if desired, but chose to adopt the changes at this meeting and will forward required materials to the Board of Supervisors as scheduled.
