Town council adopts water emergency contingency plan, to file with EMA

The Sunman Town Council moved to adopt Resolution 2026-02, a water emergency contingency plan outlining steps the town will follow during major man-made or natural disasters. The chair introduced the measure during a special meeting and members moved and seconded the resolution for approval; signed originals were gathered after the motion.
"Based on the alliance, put together the outline and the guidelines for what to do in the event of a huge disaster, whether it be man made or natural," the Chair said, describing the document's scope. Council members and staff said the Alliance prepared the plan at no charge to the town and that staff will submit the plan to the Department of Environmental Management.
Staff told the council the document must be revised each year and that the town will coordinate submission of the water plan with a wastewater asset-management plan so both packets go to EMA together. One staff member noted that Connor helped secure the Alliance assistance: "Actually, Connor is the 1 that reached out," the staff member said.
The council directed staff to place signed originals for records and to keep copies in the marshal's office and in key vehicles so emergency protocols are accessible in the field.
