Staff presented a petition to vacate two public alleys totaling roughly 5,678 square feet located on the west side of North Miami Avenue between NW 34th Terrace and NW 35th Street. Mawusi Watson explained the alleys are primarily utility easements that have not functioned as emergency or public vehicle access and that utilities will be relocated as part of a replat and redevelopment effort.
"All of the existing facilities will be relocated and the structures currently served by the easement are scheduled for demolition and the area will be redeveloped in an effort to include affordable housing that's consistent with the goals of Miami '21," staff said. The applicant's counsel noted an updated tentative plat and the board voted to approve the recommendation 7–0. Staff said new internal roadways and easements will be included to preserve service access.
