Director of Maintenance of Transportation Nick Von Flue told trustees the department has maintained strong staffing and safety training while modernizing the fleet. Von Flue said the department has averaged about 95% attendance and "Chawanakee's transportation department has seen a 100% employee retention among bus drivers since 2022." He reported the fleet totals 17 buses, three buses were returned to service, two EV buses were added, and staff are in the process of adding three grant-funded EV buses.
The board separately approved a motion to surplus vehicles that will not pass smog or are beyond repair as part of a fleet-repair plan. The surplus sale was presented as a way to streamline maintenance and return usable vehicles to service.
