MEChA students ask North Las Vegas for help after $10,000 grant denial for World Culture Night

Students representing MEChA at Mojave High School told the committee their club provides a cultural home for students and asked for help after a grant request for their World Culture Night event was turned down.
"We always ask it every year for World Culture Night, but, I noticed that we got declined for it," Angel Mata, MEChA president, told the committee. The event is scheduled for May 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mojave High School and organizers said it is free and open to the public.
Wilson Ramos encouraged the students to reapply and to consider other funding streams such as community development block grants, adding that newer organizations are often held to tighter outcome expectations. "If there will be another round, that will give you the opportunity to kind of hone in on maybe some of the gaps in your application," Ramos said. Students described World Culture Night as a major annual event that builds cultural awareness and community participation.
Members applauded the students and suggested the city can share application guidance and outreach channels to help the club reapply or identify alternate funding.
