Commission approves Southwest Gas tap site permit; nearby resident objects

The North Las Vegas Planning Commission granted a special-use permit to Southwest Gas to install a gas tap site on Northland Boulevard (SUP452025). Staff said the project would develop roughly 3.5 acres of a larger parcel and serve as a connection between a high-pressure transmission line and the local distribution system; no full-time staff or buildings are proposed.
Ryan Leonard, government-affairs adviser for Southwest Gas, told commissioners the site is important to meet long-term community growth needs and said the proposed 10-foot walls are necessary to protect the community. Jeff Greenmore, also with Southwest Gas, thanked the commission for considering the project. Nearby resident Lavonne Hankins said she lives two blocks from the proposed corner and opposed siting the facility there: “I would like for that to not be located on the corner where I reside,” she said. Commissioners discussed the mailed comment cards and public opposition before moving and voting to approve the permit with staff conditions.
Staff will include project conditions intended to meet design and landscaping code requirements.
