The council approved a $132,775 contract to drill two test wells to identify alternative groundwater sources with lower PFAS concentrations. Staff said the wells will be drilled outside the river floodplain at locations where prior testing showed low or no PFAS detection; the work is intended to help the city comply with an EPA deadline in 2031 by reducing PFAS in the public water supply.
Staff said the drilling and testing work should be completed this fall, with test results following sample analyses. “We should have answers this fall,” staff said, and the city expects a mid‑October completion date on the drilling portion. If the test wells yield sufficient water with low PFAS, the sites could support new production wells to reduce or eliminate PFAS below required thresholds.
