Board takes first reading of policy on adult–student interactions ahead of July deadline

During the April 8 meeting, Tina Maxwell presented the first reading of proposed Board Policy BP 4119.24, "Maintaining Appropriate Adult-Student Interactions." Maxwell informed the board that, "by law, a policy on maintaining appropriate adult-student interactions must be approved by the Board by July 1, 2026," and she said the policy will be brought back to the May 2026 meeting for a second reading.
Maxwell recommended that employee training be delivered annually via an online system that includes courses on safety and compliance. No formal action was taken at first reading; the item was placed on the May agenda for continuation of the process.
