Urban Renewal chair unveils near-final State Street beautification plan

Mark Butler, chairman of the Eagle Urban Renewal District, presented the current concept plan for the State Street Beautification Project and described design choices made after public input and design-review feedback.
"If you remember before, we had the sidewalk separated. It's a multiuse pathway, 10 foot wide minimum," Butler said when describing the redesign that shifts the sidewalk and connects it to the curb while preserving a center turn lane at staff and stakeholder request. He said the design team removed parallel parking on the north side and retained the center turn lane to address safety and traffic concerns.
Butler said the concept plan is about 95% complete, may see minor tweaks, and the project team expects to start construction after Eagle Fun Days so the event will not be in the middle of active construction. He said staff from public works, planning, police and fire provided input and that the next step is finalizing construction plans and completing the bid process.
Council members thanked Butler and expressed support for increased parking in the revised plan.
