Board accepts Whale Tale and Strong Workforce grants to expand environmental learning and CTE pathways

Trustees unanimously accepted a Whale Tale grant to fund watershed and coastal stewardship project-based learning and accepted K–12 Strong Workforce Round 7 funds to expand CTE pathways, teacher positions, supplies and field experiences.
The Chawanakee board on March 11 accepted two separate grants aimed at curriculum and career-education expansion.
Principal Katie Bethune described the Whale Tale Grant as funding for project-based watershed instruction, curriculum materials, transportation for Bass Lake and Catalina field trips, and student presentation supplies. The board voted unanimously to accept the grant.
Principal Daniel Ching reported the district was awarded K–12 Strong Workforce Round 7 funds to strengthen Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways from seventh grade through high school. The funding will support two CTE teachers, classroom supplies, professional development, transportation and field-based work opportunities, and improvements to CTE facilities and infrastructure. Trustees approved acceptance of the Strong Workforce funds.
Both acceptances were made with motions and seconders on the consent or action calendar; staff will incorporate grant details into site plans and program budgets.
