CEDM fellow outlines progress toward Rural Readiness Certification

Joey Foster, CEDM Fellow, briefed the Calumet Village Council on progress toward Rural Readiness Community (RRC) certification and identified remaining work items the village must complete.
Foster said four longer-term plans are in the works — a Master Plan, a Capital Improvement Plan, a Strategic Plan and a Marketing Plan — and that he is drafting a development guide that will be shared with council, committees and local developers to solicit feedback. The update was added to the agenda at the request of council and discussed under New Business.
The review is intended to align village planning efforts with the RRC checklist and accelerate eligibility for state programs that support rural planning and development. Foster’s update did not include a completion date; council members did not vote on a specific action during the meeting.
