Council approves guaranteed maximum price for fire station/community center project

The Alpine City Council approved Resolution R2026-25 to accept a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) from the construction contractor for the Fire Station / Community Center project. Staff reported bids returned modestly above earlier estimates; after reviewing potential alternates and soft costs, the recommended total project cost was reported at roughly $6,050,000.
City staff and the mayor said the GMP sets the construction contract, while gifts and donations will be applied later in the financing plan so the city will not need to bond for more than the previously planned $2 million in borrowing. Councilman Andrew Young voted no and expressed concern about long-term debt and growing project costs; the resolution passed on roll call 4–1.
