Engineer offers on-call services; council moves to add firm to roster for culvert and permit work

Chris Key of Schaumburg & Polk (speaker 11) described his firm's experience working with small communities on water, wastewater, streets and drainage and offered an on-call arrangement for Gholson. "Schaumburg and Polk has been around for approximately 88, almost 89 years," he told councilors while outlining local-office expansion plans and services the firm could provide.
City staff and councilors discussed how the proposed contract would operate: the contract would not obligate the city until a specific work order or task is approved, and permit fees should be set or adjusted to recover engineering review costs. Council heard that some culvert work will likely require engineering to prevent liability and to size drainage correctly; members approved putting the firm on the roster so the city can issue task orders for specific projects as they arise.
Council asked staff to check county responsibilities for some road/culvert tasks and to return with any adjustments to the permit fee schedule so future permit applicants help cover review costs.
