District reports improved attendance; liaison credited with outreach and transporting students

The district credited attendance liaison Janel Nielsen with outreach and hands-on assistance; Bryant said Nielsen has been a key contact for families and has transported an estimated more than 200 students to school when necessary.
Trustee Elisabeth Parish asked specifically what the district is doing about chronic absenteeism. Superintendent Jamie Nino said Nielsen’s targeted outreach and one-day contracts for students are among the strategies staff are using, and commended attendance clerks for their efforts.
