Board trims Adult School graduation requirement to state minimum and approves new computers

The Chawanakee Unified School District Board voted April 8 to align Chawanakee Adult School's graduation requirement with the state minimum by lowering the local credit requirement from 160 to 130 credits. Principal Paul Shoaf told trustees the change would also eliminate Living Pro, Senior Projects and Physical Education as local requirements to match state expectations. The motion to approve the change was made by Jessie Hutchens, seconded by Jack Thornburg, and passed unanimously.
Shoaf also requested authorization to purchase new computers for the Adult Education program to enable Business & Entrepreneurship and the National External Diploma Program. He said the program began the school year with two students and had grown to about 20. Shoaf warned that available funds are time-limited: "If the funds aren't spent, we will lose them." Trustees unanimously approved the computer purchase to support program expansion.
