Chamblee to award $2.6M paving contract; speed tables, traffic calming planned

City staff presented the 2026 roadway resurfacing project bidding results and recommended award to Blount Construction for a cost not to exceed approximately $2.6 million. The resurfacing follows the city’s two‑year repaving schedule and relies on results from a five‑year pavement assessment to target streets across the city.

Staff told council the bid package includes comprehensive resurfacing across multiple neighborhoods and that when Holden Circle is paved the city will replace temporary speed bumps with four permanent speed tables. The package also includes a 'don’t block the box' pavement marking on Tucker Road near Meadowmere and other targeted improvements intended to reduce congestion at key intersections.

Council members asked about the selection formula for paving prioritization; a council member emphasized the process is formula‑based, not political, and encouraged residents to view the list of streets selected for this cycle. Staff will return contract documents for formal approval at a subsequent council meeting.
