Council orders signage to deter unauthorized use of city-owned lot

Mayor David Porterfield described recurring unauthorized use of the city-owned lot at 1st Street and Fargo Ave, saying postal-service trucks currently have city approval to park there but motorcycles and four-wheelers have been using the lot and creating a mess and a liability. "Motorcycles and 4 wheelers are using it and making a mess and it is a liability for the city," the minutes state. Council voted to approve new city-lot signage to deter unauthorized use.
Councilman Blaide Connor moved to approve the signage and Council President Rob Hartsock seconded; the roll-call vote was unanimous. The signage is intended to reduce unauthorized parking and off-road activity; staff will implement posting and monitor whether additional enforcement or fencing is needed.
