Public works reports wastewater chemical-building fire, staff proposes switch to UV disinfection

Public Works Director Tyler Martin reported a fire at the wastewater chemical building and said the fire inspector indicated it was "probably started by the chemical pump." He said the chemicals "are dangerous and a fire hazard."
City Engineer Antonio Conti said he brought a mechanical-systems specialist to review the wastewater plant and estimated "they could get a UV system up and running by October of this year," while noting Idaho Department of Environmental Quality rules must be followed. Conti also confirmed IDEQ accepted the water-system generator installation and said crews have identified a likely downstream blockage at the 1st Street culvert, which Public Works staff suspect may be caused by beaver activity. Council did not take action on equipment selection or funding during the meeting; further design, regulatory review and budgeting appear required before any conversion.
